A stroll round the old center
Rovinj has, with its mild climate, typically Mediterranean, its spectacular coastline and rugged coves, surrounded by green islets (13), narrow cobbled streets, place of ancient historic trails, a magical atmosphere that captures.
Famous writers like GIULIO VERNE, father of the modern science fiction, in search of unique landscapes, chose Rovinj as a setting for his great novel ‘Mathias Sandorf’. Others sang and wrote about the place and its beauty.
The old town, centered on a rocky islet joined to the coast only in 1763, and characterized by narrow winding streets lined with small houses, “tall and slim”, adorned with ancient frescoes.
Near the Old Wharf you can find all kinds of restaurants, taverns and typical cafes; right ahead, the Arco dei Baldi, built in 1763, marks the entrance to the ancestral maritime city. Besides the family crest and the Venetian lion, on one side you can see sculptured the head of a Turkish, inward the immage of a Venetian; with a clear warning to leave the enemies outside the town-walls.
Proceeding, we cross the town hall, Baroque palace, which shows a beautiful embossed lion San Marco.Bunic, Boris Bozievic … just to name some now on the international scene famous artists.
